Shoal Bay & Port Stephens: Attractions and Tourist Info

Known as the "Bay of Dreams"  Shoal Bay is named after the numerous sand shoals in the area. 

With a variety of shops and restaurants Shoal Bay is an ideal holiday destination for families and couples looking to relax in a tranquil and peaceful environment.

One of the main attractions of Shoal Bay is Tomaree Head which lies on the easternmost end of Shoal Bay, a short steep bush walk up to the top will & you will find some magnificent views over Port Stephens.  Stretching to approx 50km in each direction, from Seal Rocks in the north to Newcastle in  the south. You can often see Dolphins in the area as well as migrating humpback whales.

Close to Shoal Bay is the town of Nelson Bay, with its fabulous shops, superb Marina, restaurants & bars. Port Stephens is world renown for its golf and fishing.

There are also many other bay towns in the area.  Anna Bay, Lemon Tree Passage to name but a few. 

Getting to Shoal Bay

Shoal Bay is approximately 200kms north of Sydney with the travel time taking about two and a half hours. Travel northwards on the Pacific Highway and turn off at the Richardson Road for Raymond Terrace/Nelson Bay exit.
